Too much Nicki Minaj and Justin Beiber is not good for ones brain so I decided to go to East Hollywood's (the Hollywood with the Salvadorians and crack peddlers) Little Temple...A delightful quaint bar, with a jazzy, neo-soul vibe...Oh, key word -neo-soul, or as they put it on Strictly Social's banner: nu-soul (the 'u' makes it all cool and new and ish, and electronic).
My boyfriend was making a big deal about Sa-Ra (I still think their name is Sarah) and I said cool, I would love to see Taz Arnold "cuz he's oh, so fresh and philosophical with his anti-fashion" no, but really dude is daring with his skid row meets Rodeo Drive approach to fashion.
The first two acts to open for Sa-Ra were Grillade and Mushinah. Grillade funked up the show with some not so average white boys and it was on from there. Mushinah was next. I was expecting some Mama Africa type steez but instead got some black emo meets pop jukebox. I mean to say ol' girl had more of a 80's new wave sound mixed in with Coldplayesque keys, and pop sensibilities (at least in the songs she decided to cover). She was dope. Oh I forgot to say this was all for Bilal's new album release party, Airtight's Revenge.
Anyway back to the main attraction...Taz Arnold. Oh, but Taz was more into 'Hood Love' or whatever the f*ck that is so we listened to the cosmic sounds of Shafiq Hussein and Om'mas Keith and their creative partners. It banged, then they left we did the mandatory we want (insert artist's name) and they came back and banged us in the head again.
But I know yall younguns don't like to read so look at the pictures. Fashion PEACE!
Zu
